Christmastime Reads: Books That Are Perfect For The Season

Christmastime Reads: Books That Are Perfect For The Season

Hello my fellow readers! I would like to issue a disclaimer: I don’t plan on posting everyday, but I woke up and realized that I’m nearly a week behind on jumping on the Christmas reads bandwagon, and figured that I should set that straight before I fall too far behind.

I’ll be sharing my (unfortunately small) top Christmas book picks, and then my Mother’s as well, as she’s read much more Christmas-themed books than I have.

My Top Christmas Book Picks

Sadly, I haven’t read a whole lot of Christmas reads, but I love a good fantasy read, and these picks blend that with breathtaking scenes full of winter and cocoa.

  1. A Soul As Cold As Frost, by Jennifer Kropf - This is the first book in a four-book series revolving around Helen and a realm called Winter. If you like a character who’s out of her depth colliding with a world built around the re-imagining of some classic Christmas tales, this series is for you.

  2. The Lion, The Witch, And The Wardrobe, by C.S. Lewis - A true Christmas classic that I’ve had the pleasure of reading. If you love C.S. Lewis, a cast of siblings, and a charming otherworld that can be accessed through a wardrobe, this book is for you. Better yet, you can also watch the movie afterward(something that I should do).

My Mother’s Top Christmas Book Picks

My Mother loves to read festive books around this time, as she’s a major Christmastime lover. She’s read quite a handful of classics, and some… more modern Christmas reads.

  1. A Christmas Carol, by Charles Dickens - Another Christmas classic, that is centered on Ebenezer Scrooge, who through his life turns his life into a greedy, selfish, horrible man. On Christmas Eve, he is visited by ghosts and they replay his life, and after a long night of reflection, he is changed on Christmas Day. And there are quite a few movies based around this story, and my Mother recommends watching them as well.

  2. The Most Wonderful Crime Of The Year, by Ally Carter - It’s a festive, enemies-to-lovers mystery romance. The two main characters, Maggie and Ethan are successful writers with the same publishing company, which makes them rivals. They end up stranded in an English estate over Christmas, and wind up solving the mystery and falling in love.

  3. The Nutcracker And The Mouse King, by E.T.A. Hoffman - Yet another Christmas classic(my Mother loves these), this story inspired the famous ballet. It’s centered on a Christmas Eve adventure, where toys come to life. The girl, whose name is Marie, gets a nutcracker from her godfather, Drosselmeier, and the nutcracker ends up coming to life. They wind up going to the magical land of toys, and the nutcracker and the mouse king battle.
