A Life Update: Why I Haven’t Been Posting

A Life Update: Why I Haven’t Been Posting Hello my fellow readers and writers! If you’ve kept up with my blog, you’ll have realized that I have not posted in… well, close to a month. My life has gotten pretty hectic, what with the end of school, and other extracurriculars that have taken up a lot of time, but I promise that I will be attempting to get back on track– it just might be next month. So, in the meantime, you might want to take a look at my Youtube Channel: RL Writer (@rlwritesbooks), and subscribe, since it’s much easier to post YT shorts at the moment.  Sorry about this! I have a few blog posts that I have half-started (and will try to finish), and I will try to start posting again more regularly. Have a good day!

Sugar, Spice, Steam… What Is The Spice Scale?

Sugar, Spice, Steam… What Is The Spice Scale? Hello my fellow readers! Today’s going to be a bit of a shorter post, since what I’m going to be talking about isn’t a very long-winded discussion. This post may be considered controversial, so I can only ask that you remain polite and civil in the comments. I will be discussing a specific type of romance that has made a larger appearance in books in this decade… spice. Now, if you do not know what spice is, I’ll tell you. It’s slang for sex scenes. Yeah. I know plenty of people who do not like spice at all, and do not read it (like me), but there are also people who prefer their books to be high on the spice scale. What Is The ‘Spice Scale’? It is also called spice level, and it is typically organized into five categories. Everyone’s determination of the categories are different, so make sure to check what they consider each level before you look at the books they recommend.  I’ll use one that is the most common. ...

You Should Use Writing Prompts More Often

You Should Use Writing Prompts More Often Hello my fellow writers! Today’s blogpost is a pretty simple one, and I WILL be finishing off my Dialogue Mini-Series soon, I promise! (It may just take another week…) As you can tell from the title, I will be talking about using writing prompts to inspire your writing! I will be going over why writing prompts can be useful, instances to use them, and then give you guys a list of writing prompts from both Pinterest and my brain. For those of you who use Pinterest or types of social media like Instagram or TikTok, you probably already have a list of some writing prompts to use.  Why Should I Use Writing Prompts? Writing prompts can be very helpful if you’re feeling blocked or bored. They are also easy to find, typically short and sweet, and come in a variety of different styles. Plus, they are super fun to use! I’ll give you guys a small list of the types of writing prompts: 1. Dialogue Prompts - These are typically jus...

Storm of Blood Update: You’ll Want To Read This!

Storm of Blood Update: You’ll Want To Read This! Hello my fellow readers and writers! I have a big, BIG announcement to make concerning Storm of Blood, but before I spill exactly what, I’ll give you guys a reminder of what Storm of Blood is. What Is This? Storm of Blood is a writing project of mine that I have made public on both my blog(here) and my Youtube channel. It is a Nobledark/Dark YA Fantasy centered around Storm, a Warrior of a tyrant King, and Lancelot, said King’s heir. If you want to know more about it, I have a blogpost giving some details (and I will be coming out with a new one in a couple of weeks). Last time, I was not even halfway to my first draft goal, but now I’m… The Main Update I FINISHED MY FIRST DRAFT! It is 88,000 words, Seventy-two chapters, and… it’s been a wild ride. I started this project January 16th, and ended (today) April 7th– that’s 81 days, or just under three months! I will be taking a day or so break from it before I b...

Can Anyone Write? My Opinion On The Matter

Can Anyone Write? My Opinion On The Matter Hello my fellow writers or writers-to-be! I have seen and heard a lot of different thoughts on the question can anyone write? and I wanted to cover it. Now, plenty of people have conflicting viewpoints on this question, and I will be touching on both sides before presenting my opinion. Not Everyone Can Write On one side of a coin, we have the answer that not everyone can write. Not everyone can write, only those born with stories in their minds and words at their lips can do it.  Only a select few have the natural talent of being a storyteller, and only they can tell stories. No one else can learn. Within this ideology, there are two different roads that people can take. One is, not everyone can write, and you cannot ‘learn’ to be better. Yes, your innate talent will grow, but it is simply that: a honing of a natural instinct and nothing more. The other road is, while not everyone can write, you can learn to be bette...
