Writer’s Block: How To Get Out Of Your Slump
Hello fellow writers! I’ll be tackling a topic that every writer has gone through before… the dreaded writer’s block. You all probably know what writer's block is, but if not, I’ll recap it for you:
Writer’s Block is when your brain feels stuck. You can’t write anything, and if you do, it’s hardly a sentence, and you hate it with a passion.
I feel you guys. I hate writer’s block. I’ve come up with a master list of tips on how to tackle it. Now, these tips fall into one of three categories: Lack Of Writing, Inspiration, & Too Much Writing.
Let’s begin!
Too Much Writing
I know this category seems odd, and I will admit, it only has one tip, but it’s a very important one if you’re blocked.
Take A Break - Go for a walk, eat, sleep, or do something that does not involve writing. Give your mind a chance to recharge.
Inspiration
This category is made up of tips to help inspire away your writer’s block.
Writing Prompts - These are great, easily accessible, and can lead to a whole new project or a continuation of your writing.
Fanfiction - This is great for when you don’t know what you want to write, but want to write something. Since you already know the world and characters, it makes it a lot easier on yourself.
Photos - Take a random photo, and you use it however you wish! I recommend using it for a prompt, or using it to base a location or character for your story.
Read - Reading is always a good way to get inspiration or ideas for fanfiction.
Make A Superhero/Villain/Sidekick - This one is a fun and simple little prompt for when you’re feeling stuck. Who knows, maybe you’ll wind up with a superhero world!
Listen To Music - You can use the mood, lyrics, or themes in the songs you might choose to influence your story or idea.
Peoplewatch - Go to a public place and discreetly(if not, you may creep someone out) pick a person. Write what you think their life story is.
Make Up Writing Prompts - Even if you don’t end up using them, if not, then you have fuel for later!
Daydream - Sometimes just using your imagination is an excellent way to ‘unstick’ your brain.
Lack Of Writing
This category is the more ‘technical’ way to beat writer’s block. What I mean is, you’re not using prompts or daydreaming with these tactics.
Research - I know this one might sound boring, but researching a topic you’re interested in or a topic that relates to your story can help you come up with new ideas and help you enrich your writing.
Make A Playlist - Make a playlist for your characters, a place in your story, or just your story in general! It can help you get your character's vibe down.
Organize Your Story - I can hear you discovery writers groaning, but I promise you this can be helpful! Sometimes just organizing your characters, plot, and important facts even a little bit can help you get unblocked!
Ask A Friend/Family Member - I get that you might cringe at the thought, but sometimes asking a friend or family member their favorite book, or trope, or setting can help give you fuel.
…and there you have it, writers! My top fourteen tips on how to overcome the beast that is writer’s block.
Make sure to share these tips(and this blog) with your comrades in the writer’s block trenches! Or, just share it with anyone! Who knows, maybe these tips can help that one friend who never gets writer’s block in the future.

Thank you for reading!
Such great tips! One that I use is a brain dump. I often have writer's block when I have things on my mind that need a place to live other than my brain. I write down everything I'm thinking about and then more often than not get inspired. Excited for this new blog!!
