All About Storm of Blood, One Of My Writing Projects
Hello my fellow readers and writers! I decided that I wanted to share a project of mine that is very close to my heart, Storm of Blood, with you all! I will be talking about the characters, setting, plot(with minimal spoilers), my progress, my hopes for this story, and more! So buckle up, because this is going to be a long blogpost!
The General Idea
Storm of Blood is a Dark YA Fantasy full of politics, majikya, and trauma. Majikya is Storm of Blood’s word for magic, and there are some countries that have majikya, and others do not.
This story is about two main characters: Storm, a Warrior of the King who is feared amongst the nations, better known as Halálvihar, and Lancelot, the Crown Prince who is secretly trying to depose his tyrant father.
Characters
I’ll cover the main characters, some important side characters, and touch briefly on some of the less-important side characters.
Warrior Storm, or Halálvihar
Storm is eighteen as of the start of the story, with dark curly hair, tanned skin, and light gray-blue eyes. She is 6’4”, known best for her triple majikya of wind, water, and lightning, which she uses to create storms, hence her name.
She suffers a lot of nightmares and guilt over the massacres she causes, which are her assignments from the King. The General, General Haylor, raised her, even adopting her, even though she was already his ward. But, she is Haylor by blood and not just adoption, though she does not know who her relation comes from.
She was raised to be a weapon, killing by the dozens ever since she became a Warrior at fifteen years old. Since then, she has been keeping the amount of wards becoming Warriors to a minimum because of the level of her power, and helping military officials smuggle wards out to Norvīn.
Lancelot, Or The Crown Prince of Vallorway
Lancelot is twenty-one at the start of the story, with dark red hair, pale skin, and hazel-amber eyes. He is 6’7”, incredibly cunning, and is trying to overthrow his tyrannical father with the help of other nations. He has a majikya that he normally keeps dormant.
He is an insomniac, going without sleep until he crashes, stemming from both panic and stress, along with the omnipresent fear of getting caught by his father. A lot of his insomnia also is from the Burning of Norvīn’s Capital, which he witnessed as a boy.
Warrior Matthis
Matthis is around Lancelot’s age, with black hair and emerald green eyes. He has a majikya that allows him to block other peoples’ use of their own majikya. He is Lancelot’s personal guard, and brother figure to Storm.
The King of Vallorway
The King is middle-aged, with dark red hair, and amber-hazel eyes. His son bears a striking resemblance to him in both looks and mannerisms. The King has conquered many majikya-less countries, including Norvīn, Shousta, and Evryn. He is known to be a tyrant, with an iron grip on all majikya-born citizens of his country.
Prince Connor of Wyrland
Connor is around twenty, with blonde hair and blue eyes. His majikya allows him to summon fire, and he’s known mostly for being a little sarcastic and carefree in his attitude. He may or may not have a small crush on Nyreen.
Warrior Nyreen
Nyreen is right around Storm’s age, with ash-blonde hair and dark brown eyes. Her majikya lets her tell the truth from lies and discern someone’s true intentions. She may or may not have a small crush on Connor.
Guard Victor
Victor is in his early twenties, with oak-brown hair and gray eyes. He has a majikya that allows him control over energy, letting him create force fields. He is skilled at cards, braiding, and several other things. He is Storm’s guard and related to her.
Setting
Storm of Blood takes place in a time that is sort of similar to the Renaissance era, but with a bit more of a steampunk-ish vibe to it in lieu of inventions.
Vallorway is basically your normal European country, based loosely off of how England was around that time. The palace is a very decorative, grand place, while the castle is farther away and much more fortified, but the King chooses to stay in the palace more often than not.
Some of the surrounding lands, like Wyrland and Mainore, are also more of your European style countries, like Germany or France, for example. Treylor, the country Vallorway is at war with, is based loosely off of Hungary, with Halálvihar being the Hungarian word for “death storm”. Then there’s another country, Aztecana, that is based off of Brazil.
The military camp is mostly a collection of tents, with two or more soldiers sharing a canvas tent, depending on the size of the tent. The mess hall, General’s ‘meeting room’ and other functions are made of several tents strung together.
Plot
Storm of Blood is centered around one main goal, with several different things splitting from it, with side-plots merging together the closer we get to the climax.
The biggest plot point is Lancelot’s goal of deposing his father. That drives his actions, it brings Storm to the Capital, and other royals that he has allied with. Storm has been keeping another round of wards from becoming Warriors, while some figures like Kenley or General Haylor have been secretly helping Warriors and wards ‘disappear’.
Other plot points include a variety of things, from Storm’s parentage to Nyreen and Connor, and even the Deserters that Haylor and Kenley have helped out.
The main climax has a lot to do with deposing the King, but so many things go wrong, leading to Victor, Matthis, Storm, and Lancelot to come out victorious but also scarred.
There is so much stuff that goes on that I’m not mentioning, but I’m trying to keep the spoilers on the low, so that’s all I will share.
My Current Progress
As of right now, when I’m writing this, I have written 30,321 words in Storm of Blood. My goal is to get to 80,000, and I’m making a lot of progress toward that end goal.
I write 2,000 words a day, and I have been working on this version of Storm and Lancelot’s story since the 16th of January of this year. I’m on track to finish this first draft by mid-to-late March, which is super exciting for me!
What Are My Plans For Storm Of Blood?
I plan on making a trilogy, with two following sequels developing Storm’s and Lancelot’s healing, trying to re-stabilize Vallorway, and deal with a threat that presents itself at the end of Storm of Blood. And, possibly adding in a small romantic subplot between Lancelot and Storm.
My Hopes For Storm Of Blood
My hopes for this story are a little big. I want this to be my debut novel(aka an author’s first novel), and I want to traditionally publish it as well.
Because of what I want to do, I will be doing quite a lot of editing and rewriting and refining, and I will be getting some beta readers, at least four.
But yeah, that is one hope that I hold close to my heart, and even if the whole traditionally publishing thing doesn’t work out, then I’ll move Storm of Blood over to my indie/self-publish pile.
If You Want Extra Storm of Blood Content
Alright, so I will have two main things for Storm of Blood coming. Some of it will be exclusively on my Youtube Channel, RL Writer, so make sure to check it out and subscribe(the link is up at the homebar, next to Home and Vote For…).
I will, once I have completed my first draft of Storm of Blood, give you a bit of an update, where I go more into depth on my editing gameplan. I will also post the first chapter once it’s been edited and tweaked a little more, and share my progress with querying once I get to that point.
For the Youtube Channel, however, there will be more regular content about both Storm of Blood and other writing projects once they hit a more advanced stage.
One of my upcoming videos is talking about Storm of Blood, so essentially this but in video form. Afterwards, I will begin posting Youtube Shorts with lines from each chapter, and weekly updates.
I am also planning on doing a mini-series about editing once I’ve finished my first draft.
…and there it is! My long-winded explanation of Storm of Blood, my Dark YA Fantasy that I would like to be my debut.
Remember to check out some of my other blogposts, comment, and check out my Youtube Channel!

I can’t wait for this to be finished! It will be such a great book. And it’s so good that you already have everything planned out, and goals in mind.
